How about those Yankees?!!!!?!!!

October 24, 1996

9:45 AM: I'm tir ed from staying up to watch/listen to the world series. Just when I thought the Yankees were dead they made a ballgame out of it. And what a ballgame!

It rained last night.

I have water now and I think I have heat too. I've been so cold I can't tell.

11:45PM: The flood waters have receded. People walked around all day looking like they were trying to act like nothing happened but they weren't quite succeeding. This morning people were still out taking pictures of the Shawsheen River. Nobody has ever seen anything like this. Everywhere I went today people were talking about the flood. This whole area has officially been declared a federal disaster area. It feels surreal.

The roads are open and life is basically normal. I grabbed coffee at Butler's Pantry, browsed the Andover Bookstore, went to my therapy appointment, met Mark for lunch at the Deli King in Tewksbury (when you've been cooped up for 3 days Tewksbury feels like a big outing). Mark and I went over to the Addison Gallery to see the Dorothea Lange exhibit and the Charles Sheeler exhibit (the Ballardvale paintings). There were also exhibits by two other photographers. One, Wendy something, was so productive and efficacious I felt shamed. I felt like I might as well just throw my camera in the ocean and get a job at Starbucks. (My therapist says people get like this after natural disasters.) After the Addison, we got coffee at Starbucks and talked for awhile.

Tonight I went to Cambridge to my WA meeting and watched the end of the ballgame. It feels so strange to find myself rooting for the Yankees. I hate the Yankees.
