That's What I Get for Speaking Ill of the
Macintosh
October 3, 1996
Arrrrggghhh! My modem has quit receiving. It can dial but that seems
to be it. So here I was worrying about explaining to Annette that I
wasn't gonna include the modem with the Mac when I give it to her
because I already promised the modem to Tom & Julie. Now the
modem is kaput. For all I know this Mac is on its last legs too. Gee,
why get rid of the Mac when it works fine, I was saying. Hah. This is
the Jose Canseco Mac - it is begging to be traded!
Why am I writing in the journal when I'm not going to be able to
upload it tonight? Maybe I'm in denial. Well, better do something
about this in case I should actually have to do any real work with
this thing.
Way later that same day: I drove up to Lechmere in Salem, NH
and bought a new modem. While I was there I bought one of those cheap
Easy Photo Reader scanners. The new modem is an improvement. 28.8 is
ever so much faster. I don't know why I was hanging on to the old one
except old Yankee thrift (use it up, wear it out, make do). So I wore
it out.
Still haven't ordered the new Mac yet but am getting closer. The
Easy Photo Reader software came on CD so I'm gonna finally hafta get
one o' them thar modern computers with the CD drive. Yup. Any excuse
to justify spending money on hardware.
