28 American Widgeon, the First Snow, and the Wrong Keyboard

November 11, 1996

Watchemocket Cove Count: 28 American Widgeon, 24 mallards, 32 Bonaparte's Gulls, 40 Atlantic mute swans, 14 ring billed gulls, 1 Canada goose (our old buddy with the broken wing), 1 double-crested cormorant, and a partridge in a pear tree... just kidding about the partridge... and the pear tree.... 2 serious birders with really big scopes, 4 people who like to feed ducks, and a young couple with a really loud car stereo.

On the way down to Rhode Island I passed through two bands of snow showers along 495 in the general vicinity of Hopkinton. I called Nancy on the car phone to tell her I'd seen the first snow. I made it to RI but the snow never got that far.

We didn't really have enough time at the cove because I spent the morning waiting for Airborne Express to deliver my new Adesso keyboard, which they swore would be there by noon. It wasn't. I waited til one, then left the signature sticky thing on the door and took off. When I got home tonight the keyboard was by the back door. Evidently it didn't snow here either because the box wasn't wrapped in plastic as is Airborne (and UPS) usual M.O. Eagerly I opened the box. Dismayed I saw it is a PC keyboard. Wahh! So I'll have to return it and wait a little longer.
