Redesign

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THOMAS!!!!

Instead of working on redesigning my web site, I feel like I'm redesigning me.

For once I had a productive and effective day doing whatever it is I do instead of writing.

I had breakfast before therapy, which prevented my crashing from hunger during therapy. I felt like I actually talked about relevant issues in therapy as opposed to avoiding them - like managing to talk about how I feel about the incredible reappearing/disappearing Nikki and not focusing on her problems. I also brought up the question of upping the Zoloft dosage since Nancy's been bugging me about it. I keep saying Zoloft doesn't cure grief but I finally decided I should at least talk about it. So we'll see what a slightly higher dose may bring - I may never sleep again but I'll be full of well-being. Is this too personal a topic to write about in an on-line journal? Dunno. It does bear directly on my issues with work, which is what I am trying to force myself to deal with in this journal and in the sabbatical project as a whole. Anyway, I'll up the dose tomorrow morning and give it a week or so to see what happens.

After therapy I grabbed a combo plate at the Earthfood Store, all good healthy vegan food, and brought it over to Starbucks with me. Tom appeared after I'd been there about a half hour and we had good conversation. I convinced (intimidated?) the new manager into turning off the Christmas music tape because the dance of the sugar plum fairies was driving me crazy. It's only December 3! I don't think I can handle 22 more days of sugar plum fairies dancing over my coffee. Anyway, apparently the crew had complained about it too, but it took a customer complaint (i.e., me) to get her to change it.

As Tom and I were enjoying our coffee and conversation, Julie and Lauren appeared looking for Tom. They set a schedule for driving down to Cambridge and Lauren went off for a walk. Tom & Julie and I talked about various stuff then Tom went off to the library to return some books. Julie and I talked about family and illness (the subjects of my novel) until Ned appeared. Now just before Julie arrived, Tom had mentioned he hadn't seen Ned in a couple of months and asked if I had seen him. I hadn't either so we were speculating on his whereabouts. So he shows up while Tom is at the library. And he has his wife with him. We've all wondered about who could be married to Ned so it was amazing to finally meet her. She works at the Earthfood Store (it's a small town). Julie hates Ned but we all managed to have a conversation anyway about Locke Street Congregation vs. North Parish UU ministers. (more on that some other time).

It turns out I did miss Ned's song writing workshop but he offered to recap for me at some point.

After all of this I headed down to Boston College for the Audubon Expedition Institute's "open bus". I've been mulling over going to graduate school in environmental studies and the AEI program is unique. I talked with several of the students, toured the bus, watched the slide presentation... I don't know if this is the program for me or not. More later.
