Sleep Deprivation

August 14, 1996

I'm up far too early today. I got up at 5:00 to drive Joan to the Logan Express to get her to the airport in time for an early morning flight. Her visit was way too short. Just when I got into the rhythm of having company, she's off to Minnesota and then on to Vindia (Virtual India - actually Vajrapani in boulder creek california but might as well be India...).

At last I've got a cat sitter lined up for Wilbur for the next 2 weeks. Susan is coming over this afternoon to meet him and pick up the keys. She'll find he's way different from Max & Ada, for whom she used to sit while I was on business trips. They were both shy, especially Ada. Neither of them was friendly to visitors. They'd usually hide. Wilbur is the opposite. He's outgoing and loves any human who enters the house. In his universe, all humans exist to cater to his needs. And he likes to be in dialogue with visitors. The fact that his elaborate vocalizations mean nothing to human ears doesn't bother him at all. He'll tell long, complicated stories with patterns of rising and falling chirps, clicks, and meows that clearly mean something to him.

I should call Mom before I leave for the cat shelter this morning to set up dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow since I won't be here on Saturday for her birthday. (Too bad I'm going to miss it -- they're going whale watching).
