A Whack Upside the Head

September 14, 1996

So I'm trying to pick up a towel from the bathroom floor this morning after my shower and I realize it's stuck under the door. I yank it a little harder in hopes of dislodging it and instead pull the entire door right into the side of my head. Ouch. I'm still reeling. So I yank it again and come close to smacking myself in the face with the door.

When I finally get the towel up off the floor I notice the grout between the bathtub and the floor/doorjamb is suspiciously wet. Last summer I paid the evil book-phobic homophobic handyman twice to regrout the tub and patch the hole in the cieling from the water leakage. A couple times since then I've found puddles of water in the kitchen after I showered but the cieling hasn't fallen in again. Now I'm worried about this. I can't figure out where the leak is. Last summer I identified the leak as being around the doorjamb and figured that I was splashing water out of the tub onto the floor and it just streamed down the høle by the door. That hole is now filled with so much grout I don't see how one drop of water could get by it. Yet today's evidence suggests the grout is not waterproof. Somehow it becomes saturated with water. It almost looked like it got wet from inside as opposed to splashing down on top of it. Time for a detailed analysis of this problem on Monday.

The plans for the weekend are nebulous. Bobby is breezing thru on his way back to Bosnia and Mom is trying to organize another Bobby-fest for tomorrow at Donald & Michael's. Nancy is home sick with a bad cold and I promised I'd go down to Providence bearing echinacea tea bags and vitamin C. I left Mom a message to call me at Nancy's when she firms up the plans. The Andover 350th parade is today or is it tomorrow but I don't feel like standing in the damp cold even if it is spectacular. There's a show of vintage planes at the Lawrence airport (which for those not living in the Merrimack Valley is actually located in North Andover) that I kinda wanted to see but I slept late this morning and now am pressed for time before I leave for Nancy's. As I was eating lunch at Baystate Chowda a little kid was telling her Daddy & Mommy how much she liked seeing the old planes land this morning. So I guess I missed the good parts. I keep thinking the steamboat festival featuring the African Queen is this weekend but I can't find the flyer and there's nothing about it in any of the local papers so I must have imagined it. In any case, my current plan is to pack up the echinacea and head to Providence.
