Every time I visit California it rains.
I am on my way to the desert by way of Silicon Valley and Boulder Creek. We are all on odd paths in our own ways.
Stay tuned for a wildflower and bird update 'round about the 24th.
Meanwhile, you can check out the place I will have stayed last night (assuming the itinerary goes as planned). Joan-west, the friend I'm going camping with, works and lives at Vajrapani, a Tibetan Buddhist retreat center in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We're leaving from there this morning on our marathon trek to Anza Borrego, the Salton Sea, and who knows where all else in the arid inner core of California. The Salton Sea is a controversial area and a birding hot spot. The bird life is abundant throughout the Imperial Valley. This is a must see place.
Also, meanwhile, I have prepared a little St. Patrick's Day interlude for your viewing pleasure.
