Well, I went to the
New England Aquarium for
"marine science career day", which turned out to be pretty
much of a bust. The idea was to just walk up to aquarium
employees/volunteers and ask them about what they do. This
might have worked if there had been fewer than several
hundred children plus an entire company picnic (Searle)
going on. I couldn't see the fish in the Giant Ocean Tank
through all the people, let alone talk to anyone about their
jobs. So I paid my respects to the penguins and left. Plan
B, a boat trip was out for 2 reasons:
- I forgot my jacket
- The afternoon boat trips were canceled because of the
weather
I spontaneously decided to take the Old Town
Trolley tour of Boston. It was OK but I would have liked it
better if the guide hadn't described Mary Dyer as "A Quaker,
y'know those people on the cereal boxes". I mean when you're
telling the story of someone being executed for their
religious beliefs, "cereal boxes" doesn't go a long way
toward describing those beliefs. She died for cereal boxes?
Picky, picky, I know.
I did the tour straight through from beginning to end
rather than getting off at any of the stops because I was
freezing without a jacket. Whatever possessed me to leave
the house in short sleeves with no outerwear whatsoever I'll
never know. I ended up buying a Boston t-shirt from a street
vendor. It's actually kinda nice.
And so off to meet Nancy at South Station for an evening
of revelry at MIT.
