Monday morning

effort

This journal is becoming an effort. Not just the journal, everything. It seems like a ton of work to keep in touch with friends, figure out how to write a novel, write thank you notes, shop for groceries, clean litter boxes, trek to the beach to guard the plovers, research how to get to Hokkaido never mind Antarctica and wherever all else...

fun and relaxing?

I thought "time off" was supposed to be fun and relaxing?

are you supposed to research your diary entries like a term paper?

Anyway, I've spent what seems like hours and hours just rewriting and polishing Friday's entry. Then trying to find a review of Code of Ethics for Saturday's entry took another century. I want to write more about Sunday but I just feel way too tired.

Monday evening

guidebooks, jeans and groceries

I made two separate shopping forays into the world.

guidebooks and jeans

At Barnes and Noble in Salem, NH I bought a Lonely Planet guidebook to Canada so I can plan a birding trip to Newfoundland with Nancy. I browsed for more stuff on Hokkaido but decided the books I have will do fine, all I have to do is actually look at them. Oddly, although the Hokkaido trip is scheduled for October and Antarctica will be in January if I go, I stayed up late last night reading my Lonely Planet Antarctica guide. The book lists some of the tour companies I've checked into and many others. Maybe I'll find the perfect one sometime soon.

After B&N I crossed RT. 28 to the Rockingham Park Mall where I bought 2 t-shirts and several pairs of socks at The Gap, and a pair of black jeans at Lane Bryant. I was amazed that The Gap had socks in normal colors like black, gray, and white. For that matter, the t-shirts I bought were a white one and a dark blue one - really ordinary colors. Hmmm, maybe I'll switch to a black, white, and gray wardrobe this year...

groceries

So taking advantage of this short burst of energy, I swung by Marketbasket for Cheerios, rice milk, seltzer water, and bananas. I hadn't made a list so there are probably dozens of things I need, but at least there's something in the house to have for breakfast. If I have to eat another bagel at Bruegger's I'll choke. Cheerios are the life for me. Bruegger's is on its 3rd new manager in 3 weeks and nothing has gotten any better.

walk canceled

Joan-east called and we decided not to go for our walk tonight as it is raining and my knee is stiff. We rescheduled for tomorrow at 2 at Priscilla's house.
