MidgeeMidgee

Midgee has solidified her possession of the top of the big yellow bucket. Neither Joey nor Jazzpurr even bothered to challenge her. What is it about that bucket? There are other high places like the top of the fridge or the counter by the sink, and even higher places like the tops of the cages, but the bucket has become the choice site. It's a little disconcerting when she defends it against people though.

Diana

On Monday when I was here, Diana was having complications from being spayed and Kendra had to rush her downstairs to the vet (it's so convenient having a vet downstairs) to stop her bleeding. I was relieved to see that Diana is back in her cage and recovering nicely today.

Roy didn't come in today so I had to periodically stop washing and dry stuff to make more room to stack wet stuff. Around 11:00 I started to feel so tired I could barely stand up. I could feel myself falling asleep at the sink. I actually had to sit down on a chair while I dried and stacked the clean litter boxes.

Jazzpurr tried to bite me twice. Both times he rubbed up against me and head-butted real friendly like and then grabbed my right arm with both front paws and chomped on my biceps. I got him off me before he broke the skin. Evidently the conference table where I was sitting drinking a Pepsi and going over the volunteer list is now Jazzpurr's territory and he had to establish dominance over me.

The Pepsi and my interaction with Jazzpurr didn't really revive me enough to wash the community litter boxes - the big ones that everybody has access to. There were also a few of the regular litter boxes I hadn't gotten to because the folks who were cleaning cages (Bob and Christine) hadn't gotten them all to me before I burned out. But I was just too tired to keep going. This is the first time I've left litter boxes unwashed.

two treesI revived a bit after lunch and coffee and felt the pull of the refuge. I thought maybe I'd have better luck finding the ruff today - if it's still there. There were three busloads of kids at Hellcat, so I just passed right on by there and looked at Stage Island where the ruff and (as far as I know) last been reported. By the time I'd driven down to the south end of the island, the fatigue began to return. I decided not to stop at Hellcat on the return trip even though the school buses were gone. I was just too tired and there were too many green heads around. Nobody had reported the ruff to the gatehouse, so it's not like I was missing a sure thing.

All the usual suspects were around, but no ruff and no more energy to look for the ruff.

And, like, I'm not totally nuts - there really were a lot of short billed dowitchers on Monday. According to the Massachusetts RBA there were 280.
