Brunch at Andrea's Restaurant. Thayer Street is full of hopeful looking teenagers starting their adult lives at Brown. The Brown Bookstore is full of nascent intellectuals buying their books for the term. One kid is excitedly telling another kid he's taking a course taught by Brezhnev's son. Note to kid, your professor is Kruschev's son not Brezhnev's.

A long browse at the bookstore results in three purchases: Out of the Crater: Chronicles of a Volcanologist by Richard V. Fisher, Swampwalker's Journal: A Wetlands Year by David M. Carroll, and Bird News by E. Vernon Laux. More stuff to stack by my bed waiting to be read.

Up the street at Oop! I overhear a freshman-like person who is looking at some greating cards ask "What's a pinko commie?" This cracks me up. My, the times have changed.

The long drive back to my house so we can be here for the Bread and Roses Labor Day festival tomorrow, is broken up by a detour into Cambridge for Indian food and ice cream in Central Square. When you're craving Toscannini's ice cream you can't fight it...

We are both very tired and grouchy and having humid flashes (that's like hot flashes only humid).
